The Friends of Highgate School

The Friends were founded to raise funds to pay for the education of pupils whose fathers were killed or rendered unable to work in the Second World War. When this need passed, The Friends continued to provide bursary support for families who, through bereavement or other unavoidable circumstances, found themselves unable to continue to fund their child’s education at Highgate. The Friends continue to support bursaries at the School and provide facilities and equipment to enrich the life of pupils at Highgate and to extend their opportunities.

Cholmeley Lodge

The Cholmeley Lodge 1731 is a masonic Lodge founded for previous pupils, teachers and Governors of Highgate School. Cholmeley Lodge is the oldest public school freemasons lodge, and was formed in 1878 by members of Highgate School staff and villagers from Highgate. Freemasonry is a non-religious organisation which aims to improve the world by significant charitable acts. Currently each meeting is attended by around 60 ex-pupils, teachers and governors as well as friends who are members of other lodges.
