1925 Exams
Do you think you could pass these exams from 100 years ago?
Below are four exams from School in 1925. The Senior School was divided into three departments; the Classical, Modern and Lower Sides. As School’s prospectus from July 1920 explains:
The Classical Side prepared directly for the Universities, the higher appointments in Civil Service, and generally all the learned professions.
The Modern Side prepares for the Army and the Public service in general; for the newer professions which demand a modern and scientific training; for business and mercantile life.
The Lower Side includes the first three Forms, where the instruction is of a general character. Divinity, English, Latin, French, Mathematics, History, Geography, Singing, Dictation and Writing are taught, and a start is made in the Third Form at Greek or German and Elementary Science. Boys passing out of these Forms are placed in the Classical or Modern Side, in accordance with the wishes of their parents.
