OC Golf - Horns of Highgate

Horns of Highgate – Saturday 17th May 2025 at Highgate Golf Club 

We had a very strong OC field of 25 players incorporating 10 HGC members and 15 from other clubs.  The weather was fine and sunny, a little cool to start but just right for most of the round. The best scores were by the Highgate Golf Club members. Joe Gladstone (TL 2012) won shooting his personal best of 81 for a nett 64. Joe started his round on the tough 16th in the shotgun format and was a very steady 3 over through his first 7 holes, until disaster at the relatively simple 5th with a snowman (eight). He recovered well to be only 1 over for his next 8 holes, before a late stumble. His was not only the best OC score it was the best overall score, meaning Joe wins the prize for the best score by an HGC member.  

As a result, the OC prize went to Tom Poole (EG 2012), another Highgate member. His gross total of 84 gave him a nett 69. Tom playing with Joe also started on the 16th and had an early boost with a birdie two on the short par three 17th. He then had a really dire stretch midway through the course’s front nine as he made four double bogies in five holes. Fortunately, he then steadied the ship to ensure he won the OC part of the event (as Joe G was not allowed to win both). A very enjoyable day with a full room for the lunch and two OCs up at the winner's table.  It was also very good to see several new faces, playing their first OC event, including the two winners we also had Omer Tiroche (QG 2010), Adam Jacobson (SG 2010), and Samuel Tansey (HG 2017).  They are all in the 25-35 age range which is great for the future of the society.
