OC Teams in Action
The winning team (missing Mark Walton)
It has been another busy fortnight for OC sport, with strong performances across cricket, golf and netball.
Golf
Golf enjoyed a successful afternoon at Hadley Wood Golf Club in a triangular fixture against the Old Salopians (Shrewsbury School) and the Old Haileyburians.
In what was described as a rare comfortable victory, the Old Cholmeleians finished top of the standings with 126 points, ahead of the Old Haileyburians on 115 and the Old Salopians on 114. A special mention goes to Andy Savva (EG 1982) and Savvas Savva (EG 1974), who were the standout pairing on the day with an excellent score of 44, helping secure the win for the society.
Netball
The Netball team continued its impressive form with a convincing 35-19 victory over Nets Be Real.
Ava Mulvihill (EG 2021) and Elena Binns (EG 2020) were named Players of the Match after outstanding performances throughout the game. The team will now turn its attention to its next fixture on 28 July against 99 Problems.
Cricket
The Cricket Club experienced mixed fortunes over the past two weekends. On 11 July, the 1st XI produced an excellent performance against Southgate Adelaide CC 2nd XI, comfortably chasing down 99 to finish on 102/3 and secure a seven-wicket victory. The 2nd XI were narrowly defeated by Cockfosters CC 2nd XI despite posting a competitive total of 142/9.
The following weekend brought a change in fortunes. The 1st XI were beaten by Stevenage CC 3rd XI, who posted 235/5 before dismissing the Old Cholmeleians for 113. The 2nd XI, however, bounced back with a hard-fought two-wicket win over Bentley Heath CC 2nd XI, successfully reaching 153/8 and ending the weekend on a high.
