Retiring from City Marshal
Congratulations to Philip Jordan (MG 1974) who just retired from the City of London Corporation which marked his 42nd year working in the public sector! Eleven of those years were as a Senior Private Secretary at Mansion House within the City of London Corporation where he supported public figures as they promote the UK’s Financial and Professional Services sector.
One thing that put Philip out of his comfort zone at first but he is proud of is Riding a horse on ceremonial occasions as the City Marshal.
From this experience, Philip shared what his thoughts on good leadership are. You can see these in bullet points below, taken from his LinkedIn Post:
Take a real interest in your people.
Set high standards, be clear about them and then give people the space to operate to their best within them.
Take personal responsibility early when things go wrong and ensure that you and your organisation learn from the experience.
Address poor performance and behaviour promptly and proportionately, but always with respect for the individual.
Thank the people who work for you and never underestimate the power of a handwritten letter of thanks.
Strong values and principles will help to steer you through challenging situations.
Now retired, Philip plans to volunteer within the criminal justice system and looks forward to any other opportunities that are presented to him.
