John Kitson (WG 1941) has died at age 102

John Kitson 1924 - 2026

John entered Highgate in the Junior School pre- 1937 and left in July 1941. During the war his served as a Flgt Sgt in the RAFVR.

On leaving Highgate, he joined Mullens & Co a stockbroking company where he held various senior positions  until his retirement in 1986 after 45 years service.

In 1958 the OCs opened their own sports ground in Hendon Wood Lane ,Totteridge a great achievement for an old boys sports club. John was a stalwart developing HWL along with many others, Doug Harvey, Ken Boustred, Norman Harper to name  but a few.

For many OCS during the 60s 70s 80s HWL was the centre of OCs sport. John was a keen follower and player of OC sports, he played Football and Cricket as I remember. Once he stopped playing football he would often referee league football matches and umpire cricket matches. It is fair to say some of his decisions were interesting!

John was always on the touch line supporting the OCs in Dunn  football matches and indeed when they played against the school. He was always very vocal!  He was a life Honorary President of the OC Cricket club. He was also a very good bridge player. His commitment to HWL was tremendous during the 60s,70s and 80s.

John married late in life to Angela and they had a daughter, Ros.

He died aged 102 in July 2026.
