Peter Afia (CH 1956) has died at age 87

Peter Afia, who has died aged 87, was the eldest son of Victor Afia, an expert on Persian carpets and antique fabrics. Having become a Chartered Accountant, Peter, at the age of 21, was asked to run his father's business, Marvic Textiles, and over the next 65 years he never lost the thrill of designing, sourcing and selling the finest fabrics and seeing them in fine places, only selling the business in 2025. In 2023 Marvic provided the fabric covering for the family chairs at King Charles' coronation.

Peter was Upper Bailiff of the 900 year-old Weavers Livery Company in 2003, a position he relished for an institution that provides charitable grants and helps people start off in the textile industries.

Golf played a big part in his spare time, including with the OC Golf Society. Peter was married to Meriel Kenyon-Slaney until her death in 2025.
