Championing the Arts at Almeida Theatre

John Kwesi Armah (SH 1987) continues to make a significant impact across the creative, cultural and digital sectors, drawing on more than two decades of experience as an adviser and entrepreneur. Today, one of John’s roles includes serving as a Member of the Board of Trustees at the Almeida Theatre, one of London’s most influential producing theatres.

John joined the Almeida Theatre Board of Trustees in June 2021, contributing to the theatre’s governance and long-term strategic direction. As a trustee, he serves alongside industry-leading peers and plays an active role in supporting the organisation’s artistic ambition and operational excellence.

Recently, John highlighted why it is so important to invest in and nurture new British creative talent, spotlighting Ava Pickett, a graduate of the Genesis New Playwright Programme, who has written the new award-winning play 1536, which is now transferring from the Almeida to the West End at Ambassador's Theatre. The play will also shortly become a TV drama on the BBC, courtesy of Margot Robbie and LuckyChap Entertainment.

The Almeida, renowned for bold, contemporary productions, continues to thrive thanks to the stewardship of its trustees. Recent updates from the theatre highlight the ongoing strength and diversity of the Board, including John’s continued involvement as a key member.

Beyond his charitable and theatre governance work, John brings an extensive background in digital transformation and creative strategy. He currently serves as Chief Client Officer at Konekt Group, following leadership roles at the Financial Times (FT.com), NBC Universal, and as launch COO of Marquee TV, a global arts and culture streaming platform. His entrepreneurial work spans award‑winning social content ventures and pioneering digital marketing innovations, including founding Europe’s first Facebook marketing technology group.

John’s long-standing commitment to cultural engagement extends beyond the Almeida. He previously served over a decade as a Trustee of The Big Draw, an arts education charity promoting drawing as a tool for creativity, communication and wellbeing.
