Curiosity, Commitment, and a Cup of Tea

Back in Sixth Form, Lia Sumners (HG 2021) began an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) asking: “Can Tibetan culture be preserved in exile?”. She planned to volunteer in Dharamshala, but Covid made her need to change plans. Instead, Lia spoke to 114 Tibetans around the world, learning stories of resilience and identity that shaped her understanding of cultural preservation.
Fast forward to the other week, Lia finally made it to Northern India, met some of those same people in person, and, oh yes, had tea with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Talk about a full-circle moment!

While there, Lia also supported the Nishta Project, helping local villages with healthcare, education, and women’s empowerment. From cultural preservation to creating opportunities for women, Lia’s journey shows what happens when curiosity meets commitment.
Lia invites anyone who is interested in learning more or would like to read her EPQ to connect with her on LinkedIn and send her a message!
