Do you remember your Colours Award Ceremony?
1920s School Colours
Fondly remembered by generations of OCs, the Colours Award Ceremony was held at School this week, with guest speaker Hannah Rapley (EG 2013) recognising the exceptional achievements of the Year 13 Class of 2026.
The evening brought together pupils, families and staff to honour Year 13 students' excellence in sport, music, drama and community service.
Colours were first introduced at School on caps and striped blazers for cricket in 1883, followed by football colours in 1884, which consisted of blue velvet caps with silk tassels and football shirts of crimson and blue. Athletic colours were introduced in 1930.
House Colours were introduced in 1919, awarded by ‘the House Authorities’ to those ‘who not having School Colours, have earned House Colours by worthily having represented the House in Football, Cricket, Fives, the Sports, Swimming, the Gymnasium etc.’
