OC Golf

OC GOlf had their first friendly match of the season against the Old Millhillians, which was on Saturday 7th June at New Zealand Golf Club, near Guildford.

The weather for the day was forecast as a disaster, more rain in one day than we got in the whole of May (which was a dry one to be fair). Well, they got away with it somewhat as they managed to play through the morning without any rain but as they finished and went in to lunch the rain came down heavily.

A very productive morning for the OCs securing a strong 4-1 lead with special mention to Gerald Wingrove (NG 1967) and Mark Walton (FG 1971) on a comprehensive 9&7 win. They were two over gross Foursomes for the 11 holes they played when the match ended.

They tried to make a fist of it in the afternoon against the weather as it was raining and the skies did not look good. It did continue to rain, hard at times, and a few groups only managed the first 5 holes. A half was agreed for all of these matches. Two groups played until just after the turn with 1 win and 1 loss so the outcome in the afternoon was draw, meaning the OC’s prevailed overall 6½ to the OM’s 3½ points. Gerald Wingrove was also in the winning afternoon group, so wins the MVP for the day. The match Scoresheet can be seen below:

They have also had relatively busy week this week which reports will be shared next week.
