OC Sports Update

It was a challenging weekend on the cricket pitch, while the golf section enjoyed a busy and successful Spring Meeting followed by strong participation in the Horns of Highgate. 

OC Golf Spring Meeting

Cricket 

The 1st XI were put in to bat after losing the toss and posted 143. Despite a determined effort in the field, Stevenage CC 3rd XI chased down the total, finishing on 147/8. The standout contributions came from Arthur Martin, who took three wickets, and Farooq Khan, who top-scored with 24. 

The 2nd XI faced Bentley Heath CC 2nd XI, who set a competitive target of 179/6. In reply, the side showed resilience with a half-century from Zohaib Butt and 40 from Tom Halstead, but ultimately fell short on 160. Earlier, Arshad Khalil had impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets. 

Golf 

The OC Golf Spring Meeting took place on Friday, producing an excellent day of competition. Winners included Micky Tudor in the Scratch competition, Luke Nokes taking the Mertin Jones Cup, and Barclay Ivison claiming the Tiger Cup in an impressive performance at 81 years old. Peter Langrish-Smith secured the Senior Challenge Cup, before the afternoon concluded with Graham Dunbar and Gerald Wingrove winning the HF Edwards Cups in the foursomes. 

The weekend continued with the Horns of Highgate on Saturday, where 16 OCs took part in the Highgate Golf Club Board event. The OC competition was tightly contested, with Martin Pyrke emerging as winner on countback after a three-way tie.
