Shaping Atmosphere Through Light: Rachael Gowdridge shares insights at London Design Week

Rachael Gowdridge (EG 2006) recently took part in a panel discussion during London Design Week, exploring the role of lighting in hospitality design. Hosted by Vaughan Designs and SPACE Magazine, the conversation highlighted how lighting shapes the atmosphere, emotion and overall narrative of guest spaces. Rachael discussed the importance of layered lighting schemes and the careful selection of Kelvin levels to create warm, welcoming environments that support both functionality and guest comfort. Her contribution reflected a deep understanding of the subtleties that make hospitality interiors feel cohesive, intentional and memorable.  

Rachael’s presence on the panel is a natural extension of her distinguished career. With more than a decade of experience in luxury interiors, she has worked at respected practices including David Collins Studio, Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and Ennismore International, contributing to hospitality and residential projects across the UK and internationally.  

In 2021, she founded Rachael Gowdridge Interior Design, a London‑based studio known for its warm, layered and craft‑led aesthetic. Her work blends art, antiques, bespoke furniture and an acute sensitivity to the history and character of each space. Clients she has collaborated with include Four Seasons Hotels, The Hoxton Hotels, Gleneagles, Fortnum & Mason, Harrods, Big Mamma Group and Rocco Forte Hotels, reflecting her rising reputation across the global design industry.
