Vatche Kassardjian’s (WG 1987) London to Brighton Training Update

On Saturday, I was out in morning before work, so I only managed 90 minutes/35km. I had just started off, enjoying another beautiful morning, when another cyclist, a rare site at 6:15am, skittled past me, and I remembered one of my mantras - ‘purposeful practice’. So, I put the power on and made it count.

I’ve edged up my cycles on the weekend - one for endurance, usually on Saturdays, almost up to the ‘race’ distance now, and one building on speed, usually on Sundays. The rest of the team are working hard (I hope) on their own and we will hopefully get together for some longer cycles together throughout May.

I’ve kept adding other cycles through the week and I have the kettle bells out in my office so I can do a quick set of squats/deadlifts/swings when I get a chance! Apologies to my staff who are increasingly annoyed with the obstacle course in my office.

Ben, one of the team, is punishing me relentlessly in Hampstead Heath on Thursday mornings, and, as I beg for forgiveness for my sins, his motivational words have me cursing yet feeling better simultaneously.
