Collin Watson (FG 1944) has died at age 93
Colin was born on 28th June 1931 in Wood Green, North London and was the only son of Jessie and Robert. He had a very happy childhood in spite of 6 years of war – the family staying in London throughout the war.
From 1943 he attended Highgate School as a day pupil, cycling the short journey from Wood Green to Highgate. He made many friends, had great fun on school trips to Paris and Switzerland, He kept in touch with several “Old Cholmeleians” and attended reunion events for as long as he was able to.
On leaving school he served 2 years National Service in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps, initially based at Aldershot. On demob he went to work at the Legal & General as a clerk in the Life Department. Whilst there he met and married his first wife, Valerie.
Colin later joined the Provident Mutual Life Assurance Society as an insurance rep, where he stayed until his retirement in 1989. His decision to move to the PM was a wise one - he had a successful career and enjoyed good times working at Heathrow and later at Euston Station.
In the early 1980s his marriage to Valerie broke down and he subsequently met and married Hazel. They move to Christchurch in 1989 and enjoyed a new life in Dorset. He joined Southbourne Bowling Club. His proudest moment was becoming Club President in 2008, a position in which he thrived – his organisational skills, geniality and love of the club made it a very happy time for him.
Colin had 2 sons, 3 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 5 great grand-children and was sorry that distance prevented him from seeing them as often as he would have liked.
