OC Creative Arts at the Hawley Arms
On Tuesday 14 June 2022, OCs and teachers got together in Camden to celebrate the annual OC Creative Arts event. After cancellations due to covid-19, it was great to see OCs, teachers, friends and family reunite after so long.
The evening was also a chance to celebrate Ms (Clare) Rodgers, the School’s Head of Gym and Drama, who, after almost twenty years of service to Highgate, is moving on to her next adventure.
The Hawley Arms, a favourite haunt of the late soul singer Amy Winehouse, provided a fitting backdrop for the OC singers, spoken word artists and musicians who performed on the night.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of acts: musical theatre star Cameron Burt (TL 2016) treated the audience to a deeply soulful rendition of Billy Paul’s ‘Me and Mrs. Jones’; Rachel Tabizel (FG 2018) performed a gut-wrenching spoken word piece; Bruce Allinson (WG 2017) had the audience in hysterics with his highly comic albeit dark monologue about owls; international cellist Georgina Lloyd-Owen (EG 2016) performed a moving folk version of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” and Amos Sharp (MG 2020) gave a hauntingly beautiful violin recital .
The performers bid Clare an emotional farewell, all of them remarking on how she had shaped their passion for the creative arts, inspiring them to pursue and celebrate their talents.
It was a wonderful evening, thank you to everyone who helped organise the event, and those who attended. Check out other forthcoming OC events here.
