Creating Dunn Memories: Pete Ambrose (FG 1979) Encourages the Next Generation
Arthur Dunn Cup, 1986-87 Final
With the first round of the Arthur Dunn Cup taking place on Saturday 17 October, the OCs are looking for players to be part of one of the most historic competitions in amateur football. If you'd like to play, please email OC@highgateschool.org.uk.
Few competitions capture the imagination quite like the Arthur Dunn Cup. As the oldest cup competition in amateur football after the FA Cup, it remains one of the most coveted prizes in old boys football.
For Pete Ambrose (FG 1979), the competition has provided memories that have lasted a lifetime. A key figure in OC Football today, Pete is passionate about encouraging recent school leavers and alumni to get involved and experience the unique camaraderie and challenge that the competition offers.
"My mission is to connect school leavers with our old boys side and become truly competitive again."
Pete knows exactly what makes the Arthur Dunn Cup so special. He was part of the outstanding OC side that reached the 1986-87 final, having already secured the Arthurian League Premier Division title. After a dramatic drawn final against Repton, the OCs narrowly missed out in the replay.
Fortunately, redemption followed the next season when the OCs returned to lift the Arthur Dunn Cup, securing their place in club history.
Nearly 40 years later, those experiences remain as vivid as ever.
"Memories still linger for all those who played. This is what the Dunn is all about. I look forward to the new generation creating Dunn memories of their own."
The Arthur Dunn Cup offers former pupils the chance to represent the OCs, compete at a high level and become part of the club's sporting history.
