Human Rights Advocate Saul Lehrfreund (SH 1987) Named Life Peer

Congratulations to Saul Lehrfreund on his appointment to the House of Lords as a life peer. The honour recognises more than 30 years of work championing human rights, access to justice and the global movement to end the death penalty.

Saul co-founded The Death Penalty Project in the 1990s and has served as its Co-Executive Director alongside Parvais Jabbar, who has also been appointed to the House of Lords. Under their leadership, the organisation has helped prevent thousands of executions and contributed to the abolition of the death penalty in countries including Sierra Leone, Ghana and Zimbabwe.  

Bringing extensive expertise in human rights, criminal justice and international law to Parliament, Saul's appointment is a fitting recognition of a distinguished career dedicated to advancing justice and protecting human dignity around the world.  

As a member of the House of Lords, Saul will have the opportunity to contribute his knowledge and experience to parliamentary debate and scrutiny. His appointment reflects both his personal commitment to the rule of law and the lasting impact of his work on behalf of some of the world's most vulnerable individuals.
